Doggie Upate

I haven't posted any new pictures of our babies, but they are HUGE!
At ten months old Marvel is pushing 100 pounds. He had surgery on his hip in December and is doing very well, back to putting some weight on it even though he does a very fast three legged run. Maggie is smaller only about 80 pounds. She went with us to Grandma's house over the weekend. Poor thing was very carsick. We finally got her some dramamine and she seemed to do better.

10 for 2010

2010…Holy Zoom Batman
I can’t believe how quickly time seems to move these days. Not sure if it’s because I’m getting older more rapidly than I’d like or if it’s just because the girls seem to be growing so fast. Stealing an idea from a friend http://justme-leah.blogspot.com/; I decided to do ten resolutions or goals for 2010. I’ve never made resolutions before so this is something new for me. So here they are in no particular order:
1. Finish things I start. While intentions are good, results are better.
2. No more procrastination. I resolve to do the tough things first because I know that putting them off simply makes me stress out.
3. Start and maintain an exercise program that incorporates running and core body strength. I’ve been so angry at my body for getting cancer that in a lot of ways I’ve abused physical self.
4. Make an effort to really live my life and quit avoiding things because I’m too scared of getting hurt; emotionally or physically. No more hiding in books, beer or the bathtub.
5. Eat a healthy diet…every single day. More fruits and veggies, less chips and cheese.
6. Become a planner. Days, Meals, School, and Socialization. “If you fail to plan, plan to fail.”
7. Work on being a better wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Make the time and effort to let them all know how very much I love them.
8. Spend more time with God in prayer. I want my life to testify to the glory of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, but I also want to be comfortable resting in Him. He says His yoke is light and burden easy, I need to experience that more and beat up on myself less.
9. Spend less time on the internet. Enough said.
10. Do some things just for me. Massage, photography or pottery class. Something that I do just because I enjoy it and no other reason.
As I read through these, most have to do with time. I see I need to be more selective about where I spend my time since each of us only gets a finite amount in this life. Hoping 2010 is the best year yet.

Just a Thought

If I had posted that yesterday, everyone would have thought I was posting an April Fools joke.

Sadly, I'm not joking.

Going to the Dogs

The girls have begged for a dog for years and those of you who know me, know that I am NOT a dog person. It’s not that I dislike them, they just seem so “needy” to me. Give me a good ole independent cat any day.

Then there’s this strange thing about dogs and me…they seem to love me. Seriously, over the past 15 years or so, I don’t think I’ve met a dog that didn’t want to climb in my lap even if it weighed 100 pounds. Maybe it’s like the guy you ignore who considers you a challenge. I can’t figure out the attraction.

So the point of all this rambling is….WE’RE GETTING A DOG! And when I say dog, I mean a BIG dog…a German Shepherd.

All I can say that in a moment of weakness my family conspired against me, and I finally gave in and said when my Uncle & Aunt’s dog had puppies they could have one. It didn’t help that my they told the girls they could have one for free and I lost one of my arguing points. Of course now we have to build a fence. So much for free.

I must admit they're kinda cute in a doggy sorta way.

Sometimes I Forget

This afternoon was beautiful. Warm, light breeze and three little girls playing happily in the back yard; my idea of bliss. As I listened to them talk and laugh it brought such joy to my heart. While I was contemplating this, I realized that for a moment I forgot that I was a brain cancer survivor. I forgot and that filled my heart with joy too. Sometimes I just don’t realize how it’s always there in the back of my mind…until I forget. Yes, it was a good day and I am SO thankful.

Shred Update

Well I'm on day 14 or so of the JM 30 Day Shred and and as of yesterday, I'm down four pounds! Yeah me. I moved to level 2 even though level 1 was still kicking my booty, but I'm easily bored and needed a change.

I say anyone can find 20 minutes to work out and these minutes really count.

Old Photos

My Aunt is scanning old family photos and sent me these today. They are from 1971 or so. They made me a little sad. My Daddy passed away in 1985 at the age of 42 and I still miss him. I wish he had gotten to meet Mister Duck and my precious Ducklings; he would have loved them. The "Hamms" beer is classic Daddy. That must be where I got my beer loving gene. LOL

The other picture is of my Mamaw (My Mom's Mom) who passed away in 2003. She was a pistol, drove like a crazy woman and had a knack for taking care of everyone around her. She was a nurse for 30 years and I swear she knew everyone in the county. (She got pulled over for speeding all of the time and NEVER got a ticket because it seemed she'd always taken care of one of the officers loved ones.) She was a very special lady who loved us grandkids unconditionally; I don't think we could have done anything to make her not love us. I miss her too.

And the little girl in the photo...well that's me. I can see all of my girls as I look at that picture, but hardly recognize it as me.
